Lets just get that out of the way. I suck at drawing. I joined deviant art so that I could learn more and not suck so much. I kind of helped. But I still suck so much. Fortunately, I'm at that point in my life where I'm actually trying to get better and learn how to actually MAKE some of the things I consume (I'm a 4th year Game Design and Development major at RIT). I'm also going to start uploading some of my little doodles to the site for criticism. Feel free to rip them apart and even make better things out of them.

I just read yer journal post and although it's good to be your own worst critic, it's all too easy to focus on the problem rather than the solution.
If you can identify the issue, look up ways to find the solution.
It can also be as simple as going back to your fundamentals in things like anatomy and perspective, as well as practicing things like still life or getting friends to model for you.
I also advocate keeping an eye out for book fairs and secondhand bookshops as those are oft good places to pick up reference books.
